An audio video (AV) technician is responsible for setting up and operating several types of equipment needed to run live events. This includes video, audio, and lighting equipment. The audio video technician uses their mastery of these tools to enhance the quality of live shows. An audio video technician has many varied responsibilities. It’s their job to assemble microphones, operate soundboards to create an optimal mix, operate spotlights, manage video recordings and graphics, and provide technical support where it’s needed, among other tasks.
AV technicians often work odd hours, including nights and weekends. Qualifying for the job doesn’t typically require an advanced education but will require familiarity with and skill in operating various types of audio and visual tools
